Two for Tattoosday - Dave's Scalpflower and Bethany's Lonely Whale

A couple weeks back, I met Dave and Bethany outside of the Borders Penn Plaza in Manhattan. Both had amazing ink and shared some tattoos with us. Let's start with Dave's "scalpflower":<br />

He said, 'Yeah, that's awesome/ Let's do it.' "</div></blockquote>Dave, who is approximately 70% covered in tattoos, had mostly been worked on by Tony Hundahl from Rock of Ages Tattoo in Austin, Texas. Hundahl has done both of Dave's sleeves (including the traditional segment pictured below), his chest, stomach, back, knees and one of his legs.<br />

Dave added that, since moving to Washington D.C. recently, he started collecting work from other artists in the East.<br />

Deno Jr. works out of Circus Tattoo in Madrid, Spain, but had recently done a guest spot at Tattoo Paradise in D.C.<br />

This tattoo is of this lonely whale, whose song is different from any other species, so it is an outcast, and she doesn't have a mate.<br />

Two for Tattoosday: Elise Remembers Paris and Shares a Cardinal

We chatted a bit and, because her top partially obscured sections of her tattoos, she told me she'd email me photos. The idea of including the Parisian cityscape came from Charmaine Olivia, an artist based out of </span><span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;">San Francisco</span><span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;">. Elise included the </span><span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;">Eiffel</span><span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;"> </span><span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;">Tower</span><span style="color: black; font-family: Arial; font-size: 11pt;"> in it. Shon is the same artist that did the <a href="http://tattoosday.blogspot.com/2010/01/tyger-tyger-burning-bright.html">tiger on my calf</a>. Jessica's Chest Piece and a Tale of Two Tigers

It also recalls an <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claddagh_ring">Irish claddagh ring</a>, with two hands holding a heart. If you look at his portfolio on <a href="http://www.goodoldfashionedtattoos.com/">his site</a>, slide 87 shows a brighter original version of the tattoo when it was first completed.<br /><br />When I asked her how many tattoos she had, she said, twenty-two, and showed me her most recent, a Peanuts tattoo. When I inquired where she got it, she said <a href="http://www.thickerthanwatertattoo.com/">Thicker Than Water</a> on the Lower East Side. "Oh," I commented, "you got one of the $50 specials?" I knew that the shop had done a $50 tattoo event the previous Saturday. Jessica confirmed that she had, in fact, attended with a friend.<br /><br /><br />I continued, "<a href="http://www.facebook.com/?ref=home#%21/Djoner?ref=ts">Shon Lindauer</a> was the artist for <a href="http://tattoosday.blogspot.com/2010/01/tyger-tyger-burning-bright.html">my tiger</a>,"and I rolled up my pant leg to reveal <a href="http://tattoosday.blogspot.com/2010/01/tyger-tyger-burning-bright.html">the piece</a> Shon had inked at the beginning of the year when they were in "<a href="http://tattoosday.blogspot.com/2010/01/year-o-tiger-has-begun.html">Year of the Tiger</a>" mode. Well, you could have knocked Jessica over with a feather and her aunt, who Jessica was seeing off at the station, was also surprised. Why?<br /><br />Jessica pulled down her right sleeve to reveal a familiar, but more feminine version of my tiger from my calf.<br /><br /><br />Shon had inked a variation on the tiger for her in February.
